1.8 Changing role and contribution of Queens
For this dot point it is essential that you understand both the traditional role of queen and how this role was challenged by the four queens above (Tiye, Nefertiti, Akhesenamun and Nefertari).

The traditional role of a queen can be summed up by modern scholar, Robins:
​
"On an ideological level, the queen represented the female principle of the universe through which the male king could renew himself…Both the king’s mother and the king’s principal wife had important roles to play, and it is possible that these offered potential power to the holder” (Robins, Women in Ancient Egypt)
